The Intersection of Art & Politics: Tchaikovsky on Stage Amidst Russia's War

As the unjust war in Ukraine continues, a masterpiece of Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky takes to the stage of the War Memorial Opera House as part of San Francisco Opera’s historic centennial season. As a society, we must again ask ourselves how art and politics intersect. Is it appropriate to present on our stage centuries-old literature which represents the history and culture of a modern-day aggressor on the global stage? What responsibilities do today’s artists have amidst a world of increasing enemies and conflicts? Please join us online on Friday, October 7 at 6:00 PM as San Francisco Opera Dramaturge Emeritus Kip Cranna leads panelists Marika Kuzma, Maria Sonevytsky, and Kseniia Polstankina Barrad in a discussion on the intersection of art and politics in these troubled times of war and unrest.
