Knežević, Bojan

Bass-baritone Bojan Knežević has received critical acclaim for his many operatic portrayals in opera houses in America and in Europe, both as a bass-baritone and as a baritone. The dark and resonant timbre of his voice matched with his comic timing, and versatility have created many highlights in his 35-year career. Mr. Knežević sang a heralded Wozzeck (“The cast was top-notch, led by Bojan Knezevic in a knowing and musically focused performance in the title role” – San Francisco Chronicle) for San Francisco’s Opera Parallèle, as well as George Wilson in The Great Gatsby. Mr. Knežević has had a long, professional association with San Francisco Opera, where he has performed in over 40 productions as a soloist. As a young artist, he was trained in the Merola Program (1992-94), Western Opera Theater national tours (1992-94) and as a 1995 Adler Fellow. He has sung Dr. Dulcamara in L’Elixir d’Amore, Harasta in The Cunning Little Vixen, Sacristan in Tosca, Hali in L’Italiana in Algeri, Antonio in Le Nozze di Figaro with San Francisco Opera, as well as many supporting roles with the company. He began his operatic career singing in the former Yugoslavia, and has sung with American companies such as Fort Worth Opera, Chicago Lyric, Sarasota and Minnesota Operas to name a few. Most recently, he has enjoyed performing closer to home with the Mendocino Festival: Don Pasquale, L’Elixir d’Amore and Matrimonio Segreto; with Island City Opera: Il Signor Bruschino, Kashchey, the Immortal and a film version of The Wreckers, as well as with Livermore Valley opera: Cenerentola, L’Italiana in Algeria and Gianni Schicchi.
