Soprano Crystal Kim joined the San Francisco Opera Chorus in 2023 and has since performed featured solo roles with the company, including Cousin in Madame Butterfly in 2023 and Echo in The Handmaid’s Tale in 2024. Praised for her radiant tone and expressive stage presence, she continues to be a vibrant and dynamic force in the operatic community. 

Crystal has appeared as a soloist with major ensembles, including performances of Ives’ Symphony No. 4 and Mason Bates’ Mass Transmission with the San Francisco Symphony. Her concert credits also include Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with Symphony Silicon Valley, Finzi’s In Terra Pax, and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with Nova Vista Symphony.

On the operatic stage, Crystal has portrayed a wide range of roles spanning both lyric and character repertoire. Highlights include Susanna in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Papagena and Pamina in The Magic Flute, Musetta in La Bohème, Sister Catherine in Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking, and A Lady with a Cake Box in Argento’s Postcard from Morocco. Her versatility and commitment to storytelling through music continue to captivate audiences.

Crystal holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice from Hanyang University in Seoul and earned both her Master of Music and Professional Artist Diploma in Voice from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. A former member of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, she brings artistry, precision, and heartfelt connection to every performance.
