Baggott, Buffy

Mezzo Soprano Buffy Baggott made her company debut with San Francisco Opera in 2008 in the role of Flosshilde in Das Rheingold and returned to sing the Second Secretary in Nixon in China, Queen Hecube in Les Troyens, Maria in Two Women and Giovanna in Rigoletto.

Ms. Baggott studied vocal performance at UCLA and San Francisco State Universities, went on to complete two apprenticeships with the Santa Fe Opera and is an alumnus of the prestigious Lyric Opera Center for American Artists, now known as the Ryan Opera Center. Performances at the Lyric Opera Chicago include most notably: Carmen in the matinees of Carmen, The Schoolboy (Lulu), Dryade (Ariadne auf Naxos), Flora (La Traviata), both Second and Third Ladies in productions of Die Zauberflöte, Siegrune (Die Walküre) and Mrs. Hayes (Susannah).

West Coast performances include: Second Secretary (Nixon in China) for San Diego Opera Company, Countess Geschwitz (Lulu) and Miss Jessel (Turn of the Screw) for West Edge Opera, Alto Soloist in The Verdi Requiem for the Stockton Symphony and San Francisco Choral Society, The Mother (The Consul) for Opera Santa Barbara; The Mother (Hansel and Gretel) for both Opera San Jose and Stockton Opera, Zita (Gianni Schicchi) and Berta (Il Barbiere di Sviglia) for Sacramento Opera. Singing Dulcinee opposite her husband, veteran SF Opera Chorus Bass Bill Pickersgill as the Windmill fighter in Don Quichotte at Island City Opera is a performance that is close to her heart. Ms. Baggott has also sung various Rheinmaidens, Valkyries and Norns in Ring Cycle operas at San Francisco Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Lyric Opera Chicago, Hawaii Opera Theater, and Indianapolis Opera.

She can be heard on the Santa Fe Opera recording of Emmeline, Cedille Records recordings of The Good Soldier Schweik, The Billy Collin’s Suite and In Eleanor’s Words: Music of Stacy Garrop, and Christopher Anderson-Bazzoli’s recording of his song cycle Continent’s End.
